We walked 10k with these two to get to this empty beach for their engagement session, and it was well worth it. It was an honour to document them running free, drinking champagne, & being so in love. We started the session by meeting A + K at West Canyon Parking at Golden Ears. From there, we were expecting a brief walk to get to North Beach where we had planned to have the shoot. As we started walking there from the parking lot, we came across a part of the road that was washed out and under construction. There was no way around the construction, so we went for an adventured and followed a steeper path that did eventually lead us to North Beach.
We found a fairytale forest.
Along the way, we found a beautiful patch of forest that the sunlight was shining through just perfectly. We love to be flexible during our engagement shoots for times like this when we see amazing light or background that we simply can’t ignore. So, we took a little detour and adventured through this mossy “fairytale” forest for a few minutes. A + K were on board and willing to try a few unique poses and ideas that we were thinking up along the time. Linden had a cool vision for a shot and laid flat on his back on the moss to execute it from this cool perspective.
We continued on the long path to North Beach, and made a few other stops along the way when we saw something that inspired us. We stopped at a little beachy spot near Gold Creek Parking Lot with a cool bridge in the background.
Blue hour at the beach.
The sun had just set behind the mountains when we got to the beach, so we got to play in soft blue-hour light, while the mountaintops were still brightly illuminated behind us. The weather was perfect, and because the beach was so hard to access, it was completely empty, so we didn’t have anyone watching us pose, run around, and get silly.
After some walking, running, and posed photos with A + K, we sat them down on this rock for a few shots. Something about the hue of the green leaves and the blue mountains behind them in these shots make these some of my favourite from the whole session. The colour palette of this shoot was such a dreamy and soft green/blue.
After these shots, we sat A + K on our white knit blanket for a few “picnic” style photos. They adorably cuddled on the blanket and were such naturals together. The shots of them sitting on the picnic blanket was looking like a Netflix series cover and we were obsessed with it.
Their outfits, the champagne, and the love that these two share tell such a cohesive and beautiful story.
A + K started in their dressier outfits, and we did most of the shoot in these same outfits. Kirsten wore a beachy, flowy, white dress (we will ALWAYS support wearing a white dress for engagement photos) and Aaron wore a casual, neutral outfit which worked so well. We love that they did some photos barefoot too; their outfits, the champagne, and the love that these two share tell such a cohesive and beautiful story. The outfits suited the soft, beachy, romantic vibe that these two created.
**Pro Tip: Flowy dresses and skirts are AMAZING for photoshoots because they look great but they’re also so comfortable to move, walk, and play in. Skirts and dresses add a “prop” element to your photos; they give you something to do with your hands, you can twirl in them, you can play with them, and if a gust of wind comes around, flowy skirts look so stunning and cinematic as they fly in the breeze!
After the “picnic” shots, A + K opened and sprayed the champagne which is always a fun idea for some great photos! We took a little break while they enjoyed the champagne, and then they boldly suggested the idea of wading into the water for a few photos. Despite it being a warm evening, the water was sure cold! They bravely waded in and we got a couple of unique shots in the water of them. Kirsten’s long dress flowing into the water was so beautiful. We loved their “go for it” attitudes.
After coming out of the water, these two did their outfit change to get out of their wet(ish) clothes. They changed into more casual outfits that we ended the photoshoot in. We did a few more fun poses of them, and got some must-have ring shots against the gorgeous mountain backdrop.
Our favourite photo...
Our favourite shot from this engagement shoot is this black & white edit of A + K running. There’s something so youthful and carefree about the way they’re holding hands, the motion that’s captured, and the way that K’s dress is flowing as she runs. It's not the most scenic shot, and the gorgeous mountain backdrop isn't even featured, but I am absolutely obsessed with this one and the story that it tells.
A + K get married in August!
We can’t wait for these two to make it official. They’re getting married in early August at The Falls Golf Club in Chilliwack. Lots of family and friends of theirs will be travelling in from all over the country, and we’re honoured to be capturing the precious moments for them.
