Your Photos Should Be Unique, Like You

No two engagement shoots are the same. Why? Because no two couples are the same!

Instead of having a list of go-to beautiful locations, our approach to engagement photos is to collaborate with you. We want to create images that look cinematic, tell a story, and feel like you. Why? Because you’re one-of-a-kind and your love is one-of-a-kind, and your photos should be unique like you.

Here's how we do it.

1.        Let’s see that Pinterest board

First things first, we want to see your Pinterest board, hear your inspo words/phrases, and see screenshots that you’ve saved! We find that most couples have a general idea of how they want their engagement photos to look: maybe you’re bundled up outside in the snow, or you’re out enjoying a beach in the summer, or you’re at a cozy coffee shop. Before we make any plans, we want you to tell us and show us exactly what you’ve got in your head, so that we can make it a reality.

2.        Where are we headin’?

Once we hear about and see your engagement shoot inspiration, we’ll give you a location option or two that fits what you’re going for. OR if you’ve got a location in mind or a place that’s special to you two, we’d love to hear about it and base the shoot and the inspiration around that.

3.        Let’s set a date!

OK not quite as important as your wedding date, but still an important date nonetheless! We’ll pick the season, date, and time of day based on your inspiration and the mood that you want your engagement photos to create.

4.        What are we wearin’?

After we’ve chosen a location and date, the hard part is done! Now it’s time to think outfits!!

For outfits, it’s important to consider the season, comfort, the mood, your personalities, and (if outside) the temperature. Don’t wear something that makes you uncomfortable or doesn’t feel like you! At the same time, it’s totally okay to exaggerate your personality with your outfit and lean a little more casual/formal/quirky/bold than you might in your everyday outfit choices. You may not wear a skirt and heels every day, but if you love how you look and feel all dressed up, wear that to your shoot!

If planning outfits overwhelms you, we’ve got a Wardrobe Guide we can send you to help you make it easy! We’re also just a message away, so send us your outfit photos ideas and because we’d be happy to give you our thoughts!

5.        What are we bringin’?

Props are SO important to creating unique engagement photos that feel candid, authentic, and like you. Imagine we are creating a movie at your photoshoot and you two are the main characters. What props would the characters have in this scene?

Remember back to the original Pinterest board or inspo photos you shared with us? Based on that inspiration, choose a few props to bring to the shoot! If you’re inspiration is a snowy Christmas tree farm shoot, maybe bring some warm drinks, scarves, and gloves. If you want a summer beach photoshoot, you could bring a beach blanket, a book, sunglasses, etc. No scene is complete without some fitting props.

If you don’t have a specific vision for your engagement photoshoot…

We’ll help you! Here are some things we may suggest or ask you about:

Think of your shared hobbies

Hobbies are a great way to start personalizing your engagement shoot! Got some shared hobbies? Let’s plan your photoshoot around something you love to do together. Say you two love roller-skating. We’ll dust off those old roller-skates and have a 90’s themed sunset photoshoot where you’re wearing baggy jeans, roller-skates, and tees out at a local park.

Plan a theme

Themes are a great starting point for planning your engagement shoot too. There are no limits to what your theme can be: retro, Heartland, chic, sunrise… maybe you pick a seasonal theme; think autumn leaves & cozy knits vs spring blooms & airy ‘fits. OR you pick a movie, show, or book for your theme. You could dress up as characters from a film you both love! The possibilities are endless.

Enjoy a date night!

Sometimes the best photos come from just being yourselves. Instead of bringing a picnic as a photoshoot prop, how about you two just enjoy some charcuterie and champagne on the beach?! We’ll just happen to be around with our cameras and giving you a tiny bit of direction here and there. A shoot like this can tell your love story beautifully and feel so easy and authentic. It’ll just feel like you’re out for a romantic date night.

We want your photos to look and feel like you.

No two couples are the same so every engagement photoshoot deserves thought and a customized plan. You’re both one-of-a-kind and, since you’re the main characters in this scene we’re creating, your photos should be unique and one-of-a-kind too. :)
